Let me give you a bit of advice...if someone should ever come to you and say, "Why don't you make a yule log for the party?", then your answer should always be a quick NO! I was up until 11pm last night trying to save a yule log that was always on the edge of disaster for the 1st and 2nd grade International Christmas Feast today. It was like a bad episode of Cake Boss. When I said "yes" I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I consider myself to be rather competent in the kitchen, but this was simply not fun. However, I saved it and it actually looked nice when I was finished. Trey came running out of school today to tell me that everyone loved it, so that makes it all worth it.

Tomorrow is Trey's birthday so I just spent about an hour cutting 21 triangles out of a pan of brownies. I still have to decorate them with icing and candy in the morning to complete the Christmas tree brownies for his class tomorrow. I'll write more about this sweet boy's birthday tomorrow. I also made a chocolate bunt cake last week to celebrate Pickle's half birthday at preschool and butterscotch brownies this weekend for Trey's birthday with our friends in Columbus. All that to say that I'm DONE baking and I haven't even made any Christmas cookies! Luckily my mom made some amazing Christmas cookies and fudge this year so I'm going ask her to supply Christmas Eve sweets.

Riley and Trey went shopping for the family today at their school's holiday shop. They came out of school today with full bags of wrapped gifts for our family. The first plan was to wait until Christmas to open them, but we just couldn't wait. It was so much fun to see what they picked out for each of us. I was really impressed with the quality of stuff they brought home, all things we will actually use. The sweetest gift had to be the little bracelet Riley bought for his baby sister. It is really pretty and she will love it when she gets a little older. The look on his face while he helped her open it was priceless. She has these boys wrapped around her little finger...her brothers, her protectors.

I'm off to bed. I have to rest my legs. The wind chill and snow has forced me to pull out my treadmill and it's a lot harder than running outside. I'm so sore. It's not motorized, your legs are the only power that this thing uses. Plus, it's all uphill. It's a very simple machine and it's really hard work. Makes me really miss running outside, but I'm hoping to get back out soon. I fell on the ice yesterday just walking, so I'm really nervous about running before the sun is up outside right now.

Nine days until Christmas!!! I'm only have a few more things to finish up!
