I'm blogging from Grandpa Stetler's computer. We're here spending Memorial Day weekend at the lake with the family. It's been a great weekend and I'm a little sad that we have to head home today, probably because I know all that I have to accomplish when I get home for our big move. Eric and his brother have all the kids down at the lake right now, so for the first time all weekend the cottage is quiet. Last night there were 18 of us here for dinner.
Saturday night was amazing. It was Grandpa's surprise 80th birthday party. There were about 50 people there, including all of grandpa's children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Eric's sister and her husband flew in from Florida, which was a special surprise for all of us. Everyone shared special memories of time spent with grandpa over the years. The party was at the restaurant Eric's uncle and cousin own and the food was wonderful. The best part was the look of pure joy on Grandpa's face as he listened to the stories everyone shared and watched the DVD that was made with pictures from the last 80 years of his life. Eric's dad and aunt did a terrific job planning the whole evening and I'm so glad we were able to be here to celebrate with everyone. Grandpa Stetler is a wonderful man, full of integrity. He has become a grandpa to me over the last ten years and I am happy we'll have the chance to make more memories with him now that he and grandma are moving to Ohio.
We'll leave for home tonight after dinner so we can drive while the boys are sleeping, hopefully we can stay awake! This week will be full of packing and planning for the move. Evan's birthday is in less than two weeks now. June should be busy...grandma's hip surgery, Evan's birthday, moving my grandpa into a nursing home...
Wow - what a wonderful time you must have had!
Take time for
God
Eric
