Riley had a friend over after school today.  This is the second time he's come to our house to hang out after school (not PLAY after school, as I've been reminded often by my 10 year old).  His mom seems nice, although I have had very little interaction with her.  She seems to trust us to take care of him without really knowing us.  I was getting ready to take him home before we ate dinner and he honestly looked like he was going to cry.  He said he wanted to eat with us.  His mom had plans with friends after work.  He also lives with his grandma, grandpa, aunt and uncle.  We tried to call his mom to make sure it was okay, but we couldn't reach her.  He said the only person that would be home was his uncle, and that he would just be sleeping.  He didn't think anyone would have dinner ready for him.  It broke my heart.  He sat and ate with us and then I took him home.  I heard him whisper to Riley in the backseat, "It stinks when I have to leave your house."

Hurting kids are everywhere...the inner city and the country, in poorer families and wealthy families.  Our house has become a place where kids like to hang out, which makes me super happy.  I like that kids want to be here...I'll like that even more when they are teenagers because it will help me keep an eye on them!  I enjoy getting to know their friends from school and watching them all "hang out" together.  I want our home to be a safe place...for my kids, and for their friends.

New around our house...

Cora and Evan have started to really play together, which in a huge help.  Evan is an excellent big brother.

Cora is OBSESSED with hide and seek.  She's learning new words every day.  She loves to clean!

Riley is doing extremely well in school.  His practice OAA scores have skyrocketed.  I'm not really concerned about state testing, but his teachers are and I'm glad he's doing so much better.

Trey has started his basketball season.  ADORABLE.  I'm loving Upwards.  I cried when they called his name and he ran through the tunnel last week.

Eric and I are exercising again after the holidays wrecked our bodies.  Running and yoga...it feels so good.

The Buckeyes need a leader...and a win against Indiana this weekend!
