All three boys went back to school today and Cora Jean is napping.  After 13 days with all four kids, the quiet is almost disturbing.  We had a wonderful Christmas break and I was really hoping for a snow day today just so we could keep everyone home one more day.

Our break began with four amazing days at home.  Time moved at a beautiful, slow pace and we spent most of our days in pjs.  The house was so peaceful.  I wish there was a rewind button that would let us live those four days over again whenever we need a break from all the chaos.

I hosted Christmas Eve again this year for my family, which is always something I really enjoy.  This was the first year that Grandma was unable to join us.  The travel  was too much for her and we really missed having her with us.  But, my brother's family was able to join us for the first time in a few years and the boys had a WILD time running around the house with their cousin.  We spent a few hours on Christmas morning alone here with the kids and it was so fun watching them open their gifts.  We finished off our morning here together with a special surprise for Trey.  He opened a book about training dogs, which totally confused him.  He was completely shocked when we explained why he might need to read it...we are getting a dog this spring.  I NEVER thought we would do this, but my sweet middle son wants a dog so much and his loves for animals softened our hearts.

We packed up and headed to Nana and Papaw's for Christmas.  Usually we only stay for a day, but this year we spent five days with them because of Riley's basketball tournament at Capital.  We had a great time opening gifts Christmas morning and were all a little too spoiled as usual.  Grandma and Jen were able to spend the day with us...just a relaxing day with people we love.  We invaded Nana and Papaw's for the week and I'm not sure if their house has recovered yet from our mess...but it sure was a good time!

Riley's basketball tournament was not the highlight of Christmas vacation.  The boys from Knox County hit the big city and it didn't go well.  Scoonie Penn's kid was playing on the court next to us...we were in a very different league.  They managed to squeak out one win, almost won another game, and then just got slaughtered in the other two games.  We drove back to my parents house with a very sad 10 year old.  He was crying...and not just crying because they lost...crying because he knew that he didn't play well.  My heart hurt and all I wanted him to know is that I think he's amazing whether he plays well or not.  He recovered...fourth graders recover more quickly than adults, but his confidence was weakened by the experience, which is the exact opposite of what we want for him.

We drove back to Gambier and spent the next 20 hours unpacking and repacking for our trip to Cuyahoga Falls to spend New Year's with Eric's family.  We had a very fun and action packed trip which included dinner at a Japanese restaurant where they cook the food in front of you (the boys LOVED it!), basketball, swimming, ice skating, family pictures, the kids gift exchange, the white elephant gift exchange, church with the entire family, and good hang out time at Chris and Angie's house.  I was able to love on my three week old nephew, which was awesome.  The kids had a blast with their cousins and second-cousins.  It was a lot of fun!

And now it's all over...time to settle back in to our routine.  I always enjoy January...if only we could get a little snow so we can spend some time hibernating!  Happy New Year!
