I'm a day late...but I still want to take a minute or two to write about my dad. My personality is a lot like his, and the older I get the more I realize that I'm more like my dad than my mom. We're introverts and jokingly say often that we just don't like people. We actually do like people, just not a lot of them at once or for a long period of time!
But, here's how I'm different from my dad...there is no way I could possibly be as kind and giving as my dad. In fact, I really don't know anyone who's willing to give away what he works so hard to earn to anyone who needs it. Obviously, I'm often on the receiving end of my dad's generosity. However, it's not just family...often it's strangers. My dad, quietly and with no one knowing, gave to the people of Franklinton...never needing to see results or to know how the money was used. And, I'm not just talking about one time, regularly. He gave to the kids in my youth group when I was a teenager to the point that some would have said it was foolish. Is giving away what isn't really yours ever foolish?
My dad is FULL of intergrity. It overflows out of him. His field, sales, lacks intergrity...it's full of men who are full of nothing but themselves. There is one reason my dad has been "successful" in the business world...his intergrity. I have the honor of working for my dad (which I should be doing right now) and I have now lost track of the number of times I have been told that the only reason they purchase his product is because they trust him. And, he is worthy of their trust.
I love my dad more than I could ever explain in this post. He's my dad and my friend. He loves my brother and I absolutely unconditionally. He treats my mom like a queen. He cares for my grandmother, his mother-in-law, like she was his mother. He loves Jesus and has always modeled following Him quietly with his actions.
Happy Father's Day, daddy. I love you.
