We've been at the beach for a week now, we have another week ahead of us. The weather has been great, so much sun. The kids are having a blast and are sound asleep every night by 7:00 because they are exhausted from the waves, sand, and sun. Riley has mastered the skim board and both him and Trey have been wild on their boogie boards. For the first few days the water was calm and I even took Evan out deep to swim with them and bob in the waves. Yesterday the wind was strong and the waves were fierce, so they all played closer to the shore and just let the waves beat the crap out of them! My brother, his wife, and baby Austin just left yesterday. It was great to spend so much time with my incredibly cute nephew. We're looking forward to another relaxing week.

In the midst of all this fun, a heavy spirit of grief has been with us as well. Marvin passed away on Sunday. He and his family have been close friends with my family for more than two decades now. My parents wanted so much to be home with the Luckett's, to share more personally in their grief and to grieve themselves for the loss of their friend. It just didn't work out that way. Dad hit a golf ball out into the ocean for his buddy. We stood on the beach together and prayed for their family...for peace, for strength. I think we've all tried to put ourselves in their place, but it's too painful to even imagine that kind of loss. So, we'll try to honor Marvin's memory by not taking any day for granted that we spend with each other this next week and we'll continue to pray for Jeanie, Amy, Alison and their families.
