We've been enjoying spring...

Lettuce, spinach, and peas are peeking up at us in the garden already. We were able to get a nice head start on the lettuce and spinach because of the hoop house Eric made in the back yard. We should be able to start eating the lettuce in a week or so. I can't wait to see the peas really start growing. They are just beautiful. The onions and leeks Eric started indoors last month will be transplanted outside this weekend. Kale and cabbage seeds have sprouted extremely quickly in the basement seed room. Trey explained it very well last week when he said, "Daddy is a farmer without a farm. But, he'll be a real farmer as soon as the chickens get here." Yes, you read that correctly. Chickens are on their way. We have to get busy quickly on the coop.

The boys have been able to spend a lot of time outside. This week Trey was on spring break and we were thankful that we actually had spring like weather for most of the week. The big spring break accomplishment is that Trey can now ride his bike without training wheels. Eric worked with him on it last night and within a hour or so he was beating his brother in races at the library parking lot. I took them back out tonight while Eric was at work and he has really mastered it quickly. I also got Pickle to pedal his tricycle for the first time. If you've seen small stuff and his short legs, you know what an accomplishment this is as well.

We were able to enjoy a nice spring day at the zoo today before Eric had to leave for work. I love going to the zoo in spring because the animals are so active. The boys had fun and received a very interesting lesson in sex education from the monkeys. Trey thinks they were peeing on each other...

The flowers are coming out on the weeping cherry in the front yard. The tree was a gift from Eric for my 30th birthday. It's beautiful during every season, but the spring flowers are my favorite.

Winter market in the morning...counting down the weeks until summer market reopens. We are joining a fruit CSA that we just found out about from some new friends. Wayward Seed Farm offers it from June to October and it sounds like so much fun.

Time for bed...
