We made it through winter. The hardest part of sticking to local foods during the winter was the fruit issue. You can only eat so many apples. I confess to buying grapes weekly at Aldi and the occasional bunch of fair trade bananas at Whole Foods. Next winter will hopefully be much different because we plan on freezing and canning much more fruit. Today was a good day, we made it to market in time to buy spring strawberries from HW Organic Farm. It has been so much fun learning to appreciate local, seasonal food. Buying three quarts of strawberries after a winter full of root vegetables and apples was a celebration. There were four quarts left when we reached the front of the line and I wanted so bad to ask for all four of them. But, who wants to be the person who takes the last quart of market strawberries.
We were back at Worthington's Summer Market today because Clintonville's regular season doesn't begin until next week. I've been considering switching to Worthington because it is so much bigger, but I think we've decided to stick with Clintonville because the drive is shorter and there seem to be more produce farmers.
