I was going to write on my last post, not just post pictures. But, every time I sat down to work on it I got interrupted. I finally just gave up and posted the pictures.

The first three are from our spring garden. The lettuce has been wonderful, especially when topped with the grilled flat iron steak and feta cheese. The feta is from Blue Jacket dairy and their cheeses are amazing. They've been at the Worthington Winter Market all winter, but they should be in Clintonville at the Summer Market as well. Pictured on the side of the salad are spring red potatoes from H W Organic Farm. Again, you can find them in Worthington in the winter and Clintonville in the summer. The potatoes were seasoned with my favorite new spring ingredient, ramps. These ramps were dug up from the forest by a local farmer and sold to the Greener Grocer at the North Market. I purchased them a few weeks ago. I was tired of winter foods and determined to find something new and local at the North Market. Ramps flavor is a blend of onion and garlic and they are extremely strong. As I began to read about them on line, I was intrigued. They seemed mysterious, only available for a limited time in early spring, which made them seem even more valuable in my winter kitchen. I've substituted them for garlic and green onions in several spring recipes. The potato recipe pictured below called for shallots, but ramps seemed to be a great substitution. Lettuce from the garden, steak on the grill, and spring potatoes with ramps...our first spring celebration meal. Our spinach should be ready to eat this weekend, which will really help us transition from winter to spring.

The last picture is of my kiddos at Galaxy Games over Riley's spring break. For the first half of his break the weather was just awful. But, we were determined to have fun anyway. The boys pooled their Easter egg hunt change from their grandparents and had enough for lunch, the kid gym, and several arcade games at Galaxy. Now everyone is back at school and I'm counting down the weeks until all my boys are home for summer vacation!
