We have had a rough baking week at our house. Nothing we baked seemed to come out right, even things we've baked often. It's been frustrating because I feel like we've wasted expensive ingredients. Sure, it all gets eaten...but, it's not as much fun when you know how much better it could be. Tonight I was determined to break the baking jinx we've had in the house for the last week. I have totally redeemed all of our failures. I made some amazing pumpkin bars, if I do say so myself. Here's the trick...when a recipe calls for pumpkin we use delicata squash instead. Eric learned how tasty this variety of squash is while working on Kevin's farm. We use it for any pumpkin recipe, including pumpkin pie. It's a ton easier to cut into than a traditional pumpkin, and that canned pumpkin stuff doesn't compare to real squash.
The house smells like fall! Happy October!
I can totally understand the frustration of baking failures. I've been there way too many times.
