Some good things in our neighborhood...

The Harvest Party at the Community Gardens: Eric and I really wanted to make this happen last fall, but it seemed as though we weren't settled in the neighborhood enough then to do it then. Last Saturday was hopefully the first of many. It was a lot of fun and I think all the kids had a really good time. Eric and my mom both have really great pictures posted on their blogs.

Party for the Marie Celeste Center: A new home for women who are ex-offenders has recently opened in our neighborhood. The couple who started the home have funded the entire project completely on their own. They are not wealthy people, but they are passionate about their cause. They still needed a lot of household items for the house, and the women needed clothing and shoes. So, the women of St. John's planned a house warming party and I had the privilege of hosting it at our house. There were about 20 women from our church and 15 women from the Marie Celeste Center home. The women of St. John's brought gifts and we had one heck of potluck. It was a great night. We have so much to learn from each other. It's a gift to be a part of this ECW (Episcopal Church Women) group.

My neighbors: I have developed a genuine relationship with my neighbors. This is a HUGE deal for me. My neighbor is 18 and pregnant and she lives with her mom. The are very sweet ladies and it has been so good to spend time with them lately. Tonight they called at about 5:00. They thought Brittney was going into labor. I quickly arranged child care and we took off for the hospital. It was a false alarm, and Brittney was not very happy about being sent back home! Hopefully baby girl Kaelyn will be here soon.

I'm off for Pittsburgh tomorrow. I'll be meeting Becky there tomorrow night and I can't wait!
