It was a great Christmas. The whole family came here for Christmas Eve. It was a full house, especially with three really excited little ones (and a lot of really excited big kids too!). The highlight had to be Cole's and McKenna's version of the twelve days of Christmas. What performers!
We celebrated Christmas morning at our house first with just us. Riley was surprisingly the last to wake up. We were all eating breakfast when he stumbled downstairs and asked where Santa was. We pointed to the empty plate and cup where the cookies and milk had been. He threw himself on the floor and started crying. He thought Santa would have left his present by the fireplace and when it wasn't there he thought that Santa had forgotten him. We quickly pointed to the new present under the tree. The tears vanished quickly when he opened his very own Buzz Lightyear, just like in the movie. He's hardly put it down since.
We made it to Nana and Papaw's house by 9:30. Many hours of opening presents. It takes a long time for 15 people to open their gifts. We ate too much and now I'm trying to get back on track eating right. The best part of the day for me was watching Riley and McKenna play. The Line's got Riley a Woody doll and a Jesse doll, so the two of them played with the whole Toy Story gang all day. He's so happy that he has cousins. He made them special pictures today. Watching the two of them is like watching me and Ryan when we were little. I'm so happy Riley has them in his life now. It's so good for all of them. It was good to be with Eric and Chandra again too. It was also good to have Jen spend Christmas with us. It would have felt like something was missing if she hadn't been there.
So, it's all over. The tree will come down soon. The decorations will go back into there boxes. As much as I like Christmas, I enjoy settling back into routine. 2005 will be here soon and the first week is already full of uncertainties for my family. But, I'm not dreading the new year. I know who holds our future in His hands and I'm choosing to trust.
