Is it wrong to break into your three year old's piggy bank to go to the mall? Today Eric was working and I didn't feel like staying home. So, I busted into Riley's piggy bank and headed for City Center. It's not like I'm that broke, but it was after noon and the bank was closed so I couldn't go and cash my paycheck. I figure I give him most of the change to put in there anyway. Plus, I used it to buy him an Elmo cookie from Original Cookie (and a coke and chocolate chip cookie for myself).
I went to check out the going out of business sale at Lazarus. Anyone who knows me well knows that I love tradition. I like to do the same family traditions over and over again. I cherish memories and the past (very unlike my husband). When I was a growing up, City Center was the best mall in Columbus. It was a big deal when that mall opened. I have a ton of really great memories with my family and friends at City Center, especially Lazarus. Even before City Center opened, the downtown Lazarus was where my cousins and I went as kids to do our secret Santa shopping. I could go on and on with more special memories, but I say all this to explain why I cried standing waiting for the elevator at Lazarus today. To see that store shutting down was very sad for me. I think it's a beautiful building with a big history in Columbus and I was sad. I know it sounds ridiculous, I have issues I guess.
Didn't buy anything, shopping with the two boys in the Sit and Stand double stroller was a challenge. For the most part a nice break from the house, although I think the women who work at Lerner wish we would have stayed home. Riley pulled down the HUGE sign that hangs in the front window. He climbed up on the platform where the mannequins sit and pulled it right down. He's lucky he had already gotten his Elmo cookie.
You should have bought him another cookie for pulling down the sign in Lerner. That was quite an accomplishment for a two year old. Papaw is proud. Just makes me chuckle, thinking about some of the things you did when you were little, and knowing payback is much deserved.
